I have a friend who is Kenny’s cousin or niece (I forget exactly which). She said their grandmother or great grandmother (I forget which) was very disappointed in him when he betrayed his Jewish faith and released a Christmas album in the mid-nineties. He got the Jewish grandma guilt trip at the family Hanukkah gathering in front of everyone. Or so I’ve been told.

Most musicians who know about his actual talent for ACTUAL jazz are extremely disappointed that he chooses easy listening as his commercial art, when supposedly he could play ten choruses of Giant Steps at a Coltrane-esque level without even breaking a sweat.
Or at least, that's what people who heard him before he got the record deal with Arista in the 80s say.
